Promising meeting with new Walgett Shire Council staff

Led by DEG Speaker Sandra Suey-Thorne, Elders Councillors and the DEG Leadership Team met with relieving General Manager Walgett Shire Council's Andrew Brown,

Executive Manager Environmental Strategy, Economy and Partnerships Donna Ausling and Anthony Doyle Director of Planning and Community 14 July 2025.

We began a promising positive relationship, learnt about the current work re-building the Council and briefed them on DEG's Youth Wellbeing Service and Community Responses programs at @Galuma-li. Other matters discussed included the Walgett Youth Centre refurbishment, Elders accommodation, Walgett pool, tourism opportunities, kerbing and guttering, Council transparency and accountability.

DEG looks forward to conducting regular quarterly meetings with Council staff in the future, and progressing DEG civic projects eg improved Walgett drinking water, the cemetery Memorial Garden, the Namoi River Walking Tracks, culture and community wellbeing.
